Mercedes Schlapp doesn't have an easy gig as the White House strategic communications adviser. In her role as the White House's Strategist Communications Advisor Mercedes Schlapp is faced with multiple issues. A president can be his own communications director. Numerous legal issues which could impact messaging strategies. Cabinet Secretaries are embroiled in their respective problems. However, throughout it all Schlapp remains focussed on the task at hand, working closely with White House's policy and legislative affairs departments and policy shops as well in the larger communication operation to coordinate policy rollouts. She's focused on areas like school safety, opiates, infrastructure, and trade. Schlapp hasn't dealt with reporters much in her current role. Her attention in March came when she came up as one of the potential candidates to replace Hope Hicks. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job as White House's strategic communications advisor. It's not easy to have Mercedes Schlapp as the White House's communications strategic adviser. She is faced with many challenges, such as a President who also serves as his communication director. Schlapp did not change her focus, and worked closely to work closely with White House policy and political teams. So far her main agenda has focused on issues like security at schools, trade, and the opioid epidemic. Schlapp hasn't dealt with reporters frequently in her current job. But she drew a burst of interest in March, after her name was suggested as a contender to replace Hope Hicks as communications director. This fight was ugly. The Schlapp's allies as well as Tony Sayegh started arguing within the press. Following the Washington Examiner published a negative report on Sayegh Schlapp said she called the candidate to be heart to heart.
